Whutz Up Family!

I must say, Life does have a unique way of challenging us, but it’s always nice to know that there is a Higher Being who has our best interest in mind, guiding us every step of the way. This week, we are going to celebrate our gift of Life. You know, it really trips me out how so many people take this gift for granted. We are bombarded in the media everyday with stories of crime wars in the urban neighbor hoods and parents abandoning their children. Topics like these are becoming ritual headlines and are simply making my skin crawl. Can someone please tell me when the insanity is going to end?

The media can have its’ way of twisting the truth, but let’s be honest with ourselves. If it wasn’t there to talk about, they wouldn’t have the stories to release. Reports are showing that 1 in every 3 people in the U.S have been directly affected or know someone that has been affected by a violent crime. Not only that. The crimes being committed are performed by minors as young as 11 years old. Where do these children get the guns from? How does he/she know how to use it? Where are his/her parents? These are the questions that I hope one day soon, we’ll be able to answer.

The reason for my celebration of Life this week, is to remind ourselves that it only takes an instant for our lives as we know it to turn completely upside down. The ones we argue with the most are a lot of times, the ones we love the most, which makes the joy and pain that comes along with it so intense. The young “Minds of the Times” are facing new issues and new problems which may require new tactics and new solutions. Although, we’ve heard it stated one thousand times that “It starts at home.” I still don’t think people get it.

whutzkizzygottasayYou all may have heard of renowned, motivational speaker and author, Darrell “Coach D” Andrews. Born into poverty in a single parent household, the odds seemed as though they where strategically stacked against him. He managed to graduate from college, become one of the top sales representatives of a prominent pharmaceutical company, and then started his own business in coaching, mentoring, and educating young African Americans who are not “At-Risk,” but as “Coach D” says, “At Promise.” He feels that “coaching your family team means being there, being aware, setting a good example for children, and continually encouraging children to do their best in school and life.” This couldn’t have been stated any better if you ask me. To learn more about this successful brothas’ works, read his books, and attend his eye opening seminars, visit www.coachdspeaks.com. I highly recommend reading, “Chicken Soup for the African American Soul: Celebrating and Sharing our Culture One Store at a Time.” Here, you will learn all about “Coach D’s” mesmerizing life story and other highly regarded people such as, Maya Angelou, General Collin Powell, Bishop T.D. Jake and Dr. Martin Luther King. Kudos to “Coach D” and all is efforts!

So, let’s all close our eyes, take a deep breathe, and thank the Lord for allowing us to be able to wake up with enough ammunition to start another day. Whatever your motivations are, let them be your drive to uplift your spirits and do something nice for yourself, our children, and what the heck, maybe even a complete stranger.

Your Truly,
Kizzy
